No Shopping? No Problem!

Challenge Update: I MADE IT!!! 60 days down. ZERO clothes purchased and holy guacamole, it was hard.  Throughout this process I realized that I shop mindlessly.  Walk into a store, find something, buy it, repeat.  I never stopped to take stock of what I actually need to add to my wardrobe.  The result – an average clothing collection with some cute pieces sprinkled in.  Talking to my roommate during a late night chat, I asked “Wouldn’t it be nice to open your closet and love everything in it?” The question actually stopped me in my tracks.  Who says I can’t love everything in my closet?  I buy the clothes!

This challenge has not only changed my view on how I shop, but what I shop for.  My new rule, I must LOVE it to spend my hard earned money on it.  It has also made me start to take inventory of the items I already have.  I gave myself a pass to buy a new outfit for my birthday, but as it turns out, I had a perfectly good jumpsuit in my closet that I hadn’t worn!

After I finished the challenge, I didn’t have this urge to run out and get my fix.  Actually the opposite happened.  Continue reading “No Shopping? No Problem!”

Transformation Tuesdays

Every girl wants to look fabulous for their birthday, especially when they are entering their thirties.  I am no exception and mine is right around the corner.  There is one problem though, we are finally out of the holidays and now it’s Girl Scout cookie season.  Who can resist the taste of delectable thin mints after they have been in the freezer? Crispy, chocolatey, refreshing, melt in your mouth delicious thin mints. Cleary, I can’t!  So, I need to counter act it and step up my workout game.   Continue reading “Transformation Tuesdays”

New Way to Make Resolutions

hny

Every January people get so excited (or dread – depending on your mood) to make their New Year’s Resolutions.  So while it’s still January – I thought I would weigh in on this subject. One of my friend’s summed it up nicely the other day while brunching saying “I don’t need a New Year to make changes for my life.”  While I do agree with her – I also recognize that the new year is a great time to take stock of your life and what you want to achieve.

I feel like most resolutions are made with an underlying tone of self hate:  I’m too fat, I’m too thin, I hate my job, I don’t make enough money, my cat hates me, blah blah blah. Let’s make 2016 the year of love and acceptance of the most important person in your life, YOU. Here are some tips to make your resolutions something you are actually excited about:   Continue reading “New Way to Make Resolutions”

The ART of a Happy Home

Spring is in full swing and this is the time for rejuvenation.  The first thing that comes to most people’s mind is cleaning out their closet.  I (having an unhealthy attachment to my clothes) take a very different approach.  Redecorating.  Being on a budget, I have to start with things that give me the biggest change fast.  The number one thing that can completely change the feel of a room is paint.  My apartment was originally ALL white and I felt like I should be in a straight jacket! That is definitely not how you want to feel in your home.  Once you figure out what you want the feeling to be, check out colors that reflect that. There is power in hues and HGTV has a great guide to the psychology of color.

  • Red: Dramatic and Energizing
  • Yellow: Uplifting
  • Cool Blue: Serene
  • Purple: Playful and Creative
  • Green: Growth and Renewal
  • Silver Gray: Romantic Neutral

Save or Splurge?

makeup

Social media has taught us that if a picture isn’t taken, it didn’t happen – so a lady has to be camera at almost any given point (or have a go to photo filter).   Every girl has to have her bag of tricks to keep her looking fabulous. However, we can’t all afford the top of the line of EVERYTHING.  So where do we draw the line?  These are some of the things that are worth the dough and maybe you can do without:     Continue reading “Save or Splurge?”

All or Nothing

photo (17)

So it officially happened.  I hit the dreaded 3.0. and I must say, it wasn’t as terrible as I anticipated.  I only cried twice.  One of which was because I was so overwhelmed by love and gratitude; so I am calling that a win.  I have been writing about trying to keep myself healthy in mind, body and spirit and I filled my day with things that could help with that.  I went on a hike in the morning with my friends, got a mani/pedi (mandatory for birthdays and special occasions), finally went to the LACMA (see I am getting cultural), and then got taken to a beautiful dinner at a Top Chef restaurant.  This one day would have been great enough, but in true Suzanne fashion, I had a packed weekend as well!

That is something I realized about myself.  I don’t do grey very well (you don’t have to worry about my 50 shades any time soon).  I got from zero to 100 in a matter of moments then don’t slow down.  In a few short days, I finished the first section of my real estate school, had the first meetings for a reality show I am creating, shot a short film, zip lined, had two more birthday celebrations, went to a volunteer orientation for a new charity I want to work with, hit the gym, cleaned, grocery shopped, and celebrated another friend who turned thirty as well.  Now, I want a nap.

Now that I’m thirty – wow that’s still hard to say, I want to learn how to balance my life.  I love being busy, it’s good for me, but when I pack so much in I get a little overwhelmed and want to take a huge break and do nothing for awhile.  Unfortunately, this is life and you don’t get any timeouts.  I think that is what 30 will be for me, finding grey.  The all or nothing approach isn’t sustainable for a happy and balanced life.  And that’s really the goal isn’t it?

Xoxo-
